How to get to Bimini and Grand Bahama by ferry and what you need to know

New requirements effective in June 2020

No passenger will require a Bahamas health visa after June 19, 2022.

Every passenger who is completely immunized will no longer have to take a test.

Before going to The Bahamas, anyone over the age of 2 who hasn’t been vaccinated will have to get either a negative RT-PCR test or a rapid antigen test that was taken no more than three days (72 hours) before travel and show the negative test results at check-in.

On the day of travel, passengers will need to bring the results of their COVID test and/or proof of their vaccinations (the original card). The government of the Bahamas has to ask for this. If you don’t have the right travel documents, you might not be allowed to leave.

Children under the age of 2 don’t have to take the tests.

*At the moment, you don’t need a COVID test or vaccination to enter Florida by ferry.

May 31, 2022: Latest update from the Bahamian government about people taking the day trip from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas (both Bimini and Grand Bahama). People who only stay in the Bahamas for one day don’t have to show a health visa when they arrive at the port, but they do have to show a negative result from a rapid antigen test.

All other passengers who stay in the Bahamas for at least one night must show their health visa when they arrive in the country.

As of May, the Bahamian government will no longer require Balearia Caribbean passengers on a one-day trip to either Bimini or Grand Bahama to have a health visa. However, they will still need a negative RAPID test.

With this new plan from the permanent secretary of the Bahamas government, more people will be able to take a one-day trip to either Bimini or Grand Bahama or to the United States.

Balearia Caribbean told us on May 23 that this new rule will apply to all passengers traveling between Fort Lauderdale and Bimini and Fort Lauderdale and Grand Bahama, in both directions.

Notice that Balearia Caribbean continues to apply all health visa requirements to passengers who spend at least one night in the Bahamas or Florida.

Describe what you need to do to visit Bimini, Grand Bahama, and the other islands of the Bahamas, depending on your vaccination status. The travel requirements have been updated. There are rules about how to get into the Bahamas.

The health situation in the Bahamas or the United States could cause these rules and responsibilities to change. Please go to the websites of the US Ministry of Health, the Bahamas Ministry of Health, or the Balearia Caribbean Ministry of Health to get the most up-to-date information.
